How can we help?

You might want to share a photo, locate an older image or know what others can read from it. We show what is actually in the chosen file. Camera, date and location appear when found.

Your photo and metadata are processed locally in your browser, not sent to us or stored on our servers. No checker account is needed, and checking multiple photos is free.

How to get started

  1. Start with the original photo file if you still have it.
  2. Read the summary and check which personal information was found.
  3. Before sharing, inspect the background, recognizable people and filename too.
  4. If needed, create a JPEG copy with less metadata and read the recheck.

Choose what you keep

You do not have to remove everything. For supported JPEG photos, choose between location, name and author information, camera and lens, serial numbers, photo dates and editing software. Detected categories are selected for removal by default. Undetected data cannot be selected. Uncheck what you intend to keep.

We create a new copy and read it again. Results are grouped into removed, preserved and not fully checked, so you can verify your choices before sharing. Your original stays intact. Read how the choices and recheck work for examples and limitations.

What cannot be established?

The checker cannot establish someone’s identity or determine whether a photo is authentic or AI-generated. Metadata may be missing or edited. No detected location does not mean the place is unrecognizable.

You can inspect JPEG, PNG, HEIC/HEIF and TIFF. The checker creates copies with less metadata from supported JPEG photos. The separate image tools also create new copies from visible pixels. Sometimes a browser can read the data but cannot display an image preview.

Try the example first

Choose Try an example to explore a photo tool. Each tool has a flat illustration suited to its function. Metadata tools use fictional sample data. You can then choose your own photo; it is not sent to us or stored on our servers. The quick checker supports up to 20 photos, up to 25 MB each and 150 MB in total.

Each photo tool has its own page

Every photo tool has a dedicated page. The complete tool overview includes: viewing metadata, editing metadata, comparing photos, finding duplicates, resizing, cropping, Content Credentials, the 360° viewer and image analysis.

The image tools support standard JPEG, PNG and WebP images. Targeted EXIF editing is available for JPEG only. The quick checker also reads supported HEIC/HEIF and TIFF files. The tool overview lists support for each operation. Every tool page explains its limitations.

How we write guides and create examples

We describe the functions available here, including supported formats and known limitations. Our example uses a forest illustration with fictional EXIF and GPS data. Those sample values say nothing about the illustration’s actual origin.

A modification date on a guide shows when its content was updated. We do not treat technical fields as proof of authenticity. For more about processing and hosting, see the privacy page. For data defined in technical standards, we link to the original documentation where relevant.

Get ready to share

With Compress photos helps you create a smaller JPG or WebP copy. With HEIC to JPG you can create JPG copies of iPhone photos, with previews and quality settings, individually or as a ZIP. The converter opens JPG, PNG, WebP and supported HEIC/HEIF photos and offers nine output formats, including AVIF, TIFF, ICO and PDF. Use Redact information for visible private information. With Add a watermark we add text or a logo to your photo. With Rotate and flip photos you change its orientation. These tools also process your photos locally and leave the original file intact.
